Final Video Story

To wrap up the last unit of the course I began to gather footage my final video story from my favorite place on earth, which just happens to be my home. I thought there was no better inspiration to make a video than the nature and beauty of where I live. This video represents what I’m looking forward to most as summertime approaches and all of us college kids head back to our roots. I filmed most of it on my little brothers new drone that he got for his birthday. Becoming familiar with the settings and how to fly it was excited yet challenging. It was really fun but it made us pretty nervous flying over the lake because we sure didn’t want to lose it in the water! I also used the time-lapse setting on my iPhone to film the clips of me driving home from Pullman one weekend to signify leaving for the summer. I also used my mom’s video camera when I recorded the clips of my dogs and the ducklings. I didn’t expect to gather so much footage and various clips from different angles and such, so determining what pieces I wanted to use was tricky. I pieced them together in an order that I think looks good and flows well but I when I went back to edit things I ended up deleting and moving around some clips. I also added an intro title, a few transitions here and there, and adjusted the speed of some clips to make it look like a fast-forward effect. I didn’t want to add too many transition effects because I didn’t like how chaotic it made things look but I also did not want to use the same ones between every single clip. I really liked the song I chose but unfortunately couldn’t use it because it did not have a creative commons license so I had to remove it. Instead I used an audio sound effect that was available in iMovie. I still think the audio adds some fun and upbeat vibes to my video but is not too distracting. Overall, I think working on my final video story for this unit has been the most fun and becoming more familiar with editing videos is something that I’m definitely going to use in the future!

Draft Video Story

I pieced them together in an order that I think looks good and flows well but I might play around with where I want the final placement of each clip to be. This happens to be a very rough draft and I plan on cleaning up a lot of the clips, adding transitions where needed, and applying some different effects. I thought the song I chose adds some fun and upbeat vibes to my video but is not too distracting. Overall, I think working on my draft video story for this unit has been the most fun and becoming more familiar with editing videos is something that I’m definitely going to use in the future!

Final Audio Story

Composing my audio story for Unit 3 of Multimedia & Content Creation was both challenging and fun at the same time. I have never really done a podcast/ interview with a program such as Audition, but the Audition tutorials helped guide me through the program so that I could continue to familiarize with all of the tools. In the past I have edited music using the program Garage Band so I think that helped me pick up the instructions for Audition relatively easy. At first I wasn’t sure how to execute the draft of this project, but I ultimately decided to go with an interview with my 14 year old brother Carson. Figuring out how he can relate to my blog topic through things he is encountering was fairly easy because we are both students. We are 4 years apart in age but we can relate on multiple things we battle with in school such as subjects we struggle in, how missing class can cause you to fall behind, and the importance of test preparation. Being siblings we share the same views on a lot of things and we also have developed similar habits regarding schoolwork and studying. We both also share the same concept of how hard it can be to figure out what you want to do with your life. Granted we are both at very different points in our lives, but we both can agree that certain challenges you may encounter day-to-day can cause you to sometimes feel discouraged. After I collected my raw audio footage and transferred it into Audition, I knew I had a lot of editing to do. Using mainly the razor tool, I cut out any unwanted fragments of our interview. I struggled with the deciding what pieces to keep was rather difficult because the total time of the session was well over 2 minutes. Finally I was able to taper it down to 2 minutes on the dot! It was made aware to me by my group feedback that there were some parts where my voice didn’t sound natural or I begin to say “umm,” so my first step of my revision process was re-recording those parts. When I re-recorded my introduction, my voice was significantly louder than the rest of the interview so I needed to properly adjust the track volume of that particular part. I also ran into the problem of going over the two-minute time limit again. There were many pauses I was able to cut out blank audio from in order to compress my project length. Then to finalize my audio story I exported my entire multi-track session to an .mp3 file and uploaded it to sound cloud account.

Final Logo

After receiving feedback for my draft logo, I wanted to take into consideration my group members’ comments on my work. My initial ideas for this project were to create something simple and artsy out of my name and initials. I was possibly striving towards something such as banner that I could use as a header image for my personal social media sites. I felt like I had a pretty solid start with my draft and I was happy with the way things were looking so preceding with what step to take next was rather challenging. After playing around Adobe Illustrator for many hours, I decided I liked the look of a very simple font, enhanced with some color to help add some depth.

The first step I took in creating my logo was using the rectangle tool to add a large black background. I chose black because I knew whatever font & color I picked would stand out against a black background. While editing my logo I decided to change the black background to a cream color because I wanted to incorporate lighter tones with my theme. Originally, I intended to use only the text tool to add my initials in all caps with a significantly larger font pt., but then once I was searching through all the fonts trying to decide my favorite I came up with a new tactic to execute the image I had in my head. I proceeded to take the pencil tool and sketch my initials just as I would sign them on a piece of paper. It took a lot of moving around the anchor points to get them just where I liked the placement. As my work started to progress I almost got the placement perfect, I grouped and locked the layers exactly where I wanted. Playing with the color and shape of the lines was my favorite part, which was where I added my favorite color (purple) along with some grey with the gradient tool, and the shape of the lines giving my initials some depth. Then I used the text tool to add my first and last name on the sides of my initials and the finishing touch, the little heart on the very end of my last name. The color of the heart was initially a grey/ purple gradient color, but I decided to change it to white. Someone in my feedback group pointed out that the gradient of the heart was the opposite as the gradient of my initials so in order for my initials to stand out as the main point of my logo I just decide to match it with the white name text.

All together I am very satisfied with my finished product after making a small few changes. The fonts along with the soft colors help portray my personal style better than the dramatic black background did. I would definitely use my final logo as a header image or a background on my personal social media websites.

Now that I have my draft logo finished, I would love to explore more tools and find inspiration for new ideas once I read the feedback I receive from my group!
